When a pet passes away, it’s natural to not only grieve, but to also want to memorialize your beloved pet.  The two main options are burial and cremation, but when it comes to the latter, it can bring up images of unsightly urns or the idea of having your pet’s remains in a simple box.  However, that’s not the case, as there’s a much wider range of memorial options than you may realize. Read on to learn some of the different ways you can keep the memory of your pet close at hand.  If you’re considering cremation or memorializing your pet, call Pet Memories at 405-840-0800.  We’re here to walk through the process with you and help you find the perfect memorial option for your pet.

Traditional Urns

The first and most common urn option is the traditional urn.  These are typically made out of wood, such as oak or walnut. However, you can also get these urns in the form of a vase made out of steel, brass, marble, and other materials, giving you additional options and designs to choose from.  These are often hand-crafted and can come with stands or display bases and specialized engraved nameplates.

Figurine Urns

For a more personal way of remembering your pet’s memory, figurine urns are a great option.  These are rectangular urns, typically made out of wood, that are adorned with a figurine of your pet.  These figurines can be customized to be made in the likeness of your pet, making it a more visually appealing memorial option.  These urns also include personal inscriptions on metal nameplates that are attached to the front of the urn, allowing you to write a message to your beloved pet or share one of your favorite memories with them.

Rock Urns

If you and your pet spent a lot of time outdoors, whether it be going for walks in your neighborhood or having a companion while you work in the garden, you may want to consider a rock urn.  These artificial rocks are hollowed out, allowing for the ashes to be sealed inside, and come in a variety of sizes and types of rocks, giving you plenty of options to choose from. These urns come with nameplates and make for a great way to not only remember your pet and their love for the outdoors.

Photo Urns

If you have a favorite photograph of your pet, a photo urn could be the perfect memorial option.  These urns house your pet’s remains inside a beautiful wooden case and feature a photo-holder that is magnetically attached to the front of the urn.  This allows you to easily switch out the photo you’ve chosen whenever you’d like, as well as to center it over the brass nameplate it sits above. These come in vertical and horizontal designs to accommodate all types and sizes of photographs.

Teddy Bear Urns

While everyone in the family mourns the loss of a pet, children often feel the loss more strongly.  Teddy bear urns are a great way to allow them to carry the memory of their pet with them wherever they go.  They look and feel just like a stuffed animal and include a plastic heart that the bear holds. Your pet’s ashes can be placed inside the teddy bear and/or the plastic heart.  Due to the size of the teddy bear, many parents choose to divide the pet’s ashes among multiple teddy bears, making it a great option for a family with multiple children.

Choosing the Perfect Memorial

Of course, these are just a few of the options that are available to families and individuals looking for a unique memorial that captures the personality of their precious pet.  Other options include keepsake urns in the shape of a heart, candle holders, K-9 cottages, burial markers, and much more.
